NYPD 2004 Women in Policing Conference

Earlier this month, the 2004 Women in Policing Conference was held at the NYPD Police Academy. Due to continuing terrorism concerns since September 1, 2001, I was asked to repeat my presentation Terrorism Fundamentals: Facility Protection, Emergency Planning and Evacuations from last year's conference.

Aside from explaining the fundamentals of terrorism, I shared insights on safety protocols and securing facilities from my role in working with a New Jersey State Police licensed investigative company that provides 24/7 security personnel at several major facilities in New Jersey, including:

  • Saint Peter's College in Jersey City
  • The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi in Jersey City
  • The Daily News in Jersey City
  • The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company –
    various New Jersey sites
  • Evergreen Plaza in Jersey City
  • The Frontenac in Hackensack
  • MSNBC in Secaucus
  • The Radisson Hotel in Saddle Brook
  • WNBC in Moonachie
  • Newport Tower in Jersey City

The management of hundreds of security personnel as well as field supervisors, human resource professionals and other managers was not only a significant responsibility but, most importantly, a privilege since these individuals were continually reminded that they were at the forefront of safeguarding the nation and protecting the homeland.
